A visit to Epernay

We ended up on the same train as Anna, a fellow GTL student, on the way to Paris. She was apartment hunting.

The fountain in Epernay that you see right as you walk out of the train station.

A nice garden.

Another view of the nice garden.

Christine next to where we ate lunch.

Me in a similar pose.

Lots of champagne bottles in an underground cellar.

A large wooden barrel.

I tried to give some idea of the length of the tunnels here, but failed miserably. I don't remember the exact specification given by the tour guides, but there's a *lot* of champagne aging down there.

It comes in all sizes!

Pouring for a taste test.

This picture was taken by a really neat Dutch family we met; I had the same camera that they did.

No mold here.

Or here.

An example of a bottle that exploded while sitting. Due to glass production and general Q/A improvments over time bottle explosions have become more rare, but it apparently still happens a fair amount.

It was cold down there.

A view down the river.
