Got a later start so decided to skip the always busy normal parking lot on 619 and take the Tuscarora Trail climb up to the Buzzard Rocks ridge trail from the west on 678. This adds substantial distance and elevation to the hike but there is ample parking. Rather than gaining all of the elevation back on the descent we took an off-trail route directly down the hill to explore for other rock and crossed (very low) Passage Creek. Experienced momentary panic when the first parking area we had considered was gated and locked, but luckily the parking lot just north of Elizabeth Furnace isn't gated and the car was free.
